What is your specialty? What models/types of therapy do you offer?

I specialize in mindfulness based CBT with emphasis on learning how to incorporate self-compassion into your life. I am trained in models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), as well as models including seeking safety. For more information on my approach you can check here.

Do you take insurance?

I currently only provide out of network and private pay services. If you have questions about how that works, let me know! You can also gain more information by looking at the question below "why private pay vs insurance?"

Why private pay vs insurance?

There are many different advantages and disadvantages to using your insurance coverage and why private pay or out of network may be better for you. You are also able to choose the therapist best suited for you with your specific area of need. There is also more flexibility and availability for therapists. For some clients, coming to therapy means that you need to have a diagnosis in order for your insurance to be billed. With private pay this is not necessary. You are not restricted to a certain number of sessions and you have a higher degree of privacy and confidentiality. Those are all just a few of the reasons that private pay for therapy may be a better benefit for you than utilizing your insurance coverage.

Do you offer sliding scale?

I do offer sliding scale. However, I have limited number of sliding scale slots. Please, schedule a free 30 minute consultation and we can discuss those sliding scale options together.

How long does each therapy session take?

Most regular weekly therapy sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. Intake appointments last approximately 75-90 minutes.

Is web-based/online counseling right for me?

Online counseling isn't the right option for everyone. However, it has been proven to be effective and as helpful as traditional therapy for a majority of clients. Online counseling allows the opportunity to eliminate many barriers to seeking help including the no travel time, you don't have to be seen going into a therapy office, you can be in the comfort of your own home, and many other benefits. Schedule a free 30 minute consultation to find out if online therapy is the right option for you! Do you want to learn more? Check out the why-based counseling page or this blog about online therapy.

Can I do online therapy across state lines?

There are restrictions with traveling and doing therapy. Since I am licensed in California, Iowa, and registered to provide telehealth in Florida, I can only see clients located in those states. There are some exceptions, but in general travel to other states may mean temporarily having to suspend or end counseling.

I am outside of the US. Can I still do counseling with you?

In some cases, yes! It varies depending on your location and the laws and regulations in that area. Contact me with more questions.

Are you really a licensed counselor? How do I really know that?

You can verify my license in each state that I am licensed in. My license number in CA is LPCC #4754 and in IA is LMHC #093251. My telehealth registration number for Florida is #TPMC267. You can also go to this which has the links available for you to go to the state boards to verify!

I don't know if I am ready for counseling yet. What can you do to help me figure that out?

You can view my resource page for some helpful things to get started. You can also contact me to set up a consultation. I offer a free 30 minute consultation for us to both explore your situation and how I might be able to help or help get you pointed in the right direction.
