Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: FAQ

How do I become a client?

To become a client, we start by having a free 30 minute consultation. This allows us to figure out if we are the appropriate fit and if not we can work together to get you set up with someone else. I am here to help you get the help you need and deserve.

What if I start as an Emotional Support Animal Therapy client and want to become a regular client?

This will depend on availability. If there is availability and we are a good fit, we can discuss next steps and get you on appropriate fees for individual therapy or on sliding scale. However, if there is not availability, you may be placed on a waitlist and given additional referrals in the meantime.

Do you take insurance?

I currently only provide out of network and private pay services. If you have questions about how that works, let me know! You can also gain more information by looking at the question below "why private pay vs insurance?"

Do you offer sliding scale?

I do offer sliding scale. However, I have limited number of sliding scale slots. Please, schedule a free 30 minute consultation and we can discuss those sliding scale options together.

Is web-based/online therapy right for me?

Online therapy isn't the right option for everyone. However, it has been proven to be effective and as helpful as traditional therapy for a majority of clients. Online therapy allows the opportunity to eliminate many barriers to seeking help including the no travel time, you don't have to be seen going into a therapy office, you can be in the comfort of your own home, and many other benefits. Schedule a free 30 minute consultation to find out if online therapy is the right option for you! Do you want to learn more? Check out the why-based therapy page or this blog about online therapy.

Can I do online therapy across state lines?

There are restrictions with traveling and doing therapy. Since I am licensed in California, Iowa, and registered to provide telehealth in Florida, I can only see clients located in those states. There are some exceptions, but in general travel to other states may mean temporarily having to suspend or end therapy.

Are you really a licensed therapist? How do I really know that?

You can verify my license in each state that I am licensed in. My license number in CA is LPCC #4754 and in IA is LMHC #093251. My telehealth registration number for Florida is #TPMC267. You can also go to this which has the links available for you to go to the state boards to verify!

I don't know if I am ready for therapy yet. What can you do to help me figure that out?

You can view my resource page for some helpful things to get started. You can also contact me to set up a consultation. I offer a free 30 minute consultation for us to both explore your situation and how I might be able to help or help get you pointed in the right direction.
